Welcome to Southfield Veterinary Centre
The practice was established over 150 years ago for the provision of veterinary services to farm animals. Today the centre is a small animal practice and prides itself on offering a combination of traditional values with modern techniques and a high level of expertise. We are currently a RCVS Tier 2 accredited practice.
Reception
Our receptionists can introduce you to the range of wormers and flea treatments we offer for sale. Our waiting area also stocks a wide array of pet accessories and products e.g. dog leads, collars, toys, shampoos and treats. You are always welcome to browse our well stocked display area. We can also supply and recommend specifically formulated pet foods for all the different “life stages” that you dog or cat goes through. We primarily stock Royal Canin but can order in any of the major food brands for your pet.
Diagnostic Facilities
Our very experienced team of veterinary surgeons have a wide variety of diagnostic tools available to them to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of your pet. Many of these tools would not be out of place in a human hospital. For example we can offer X-ray, ultrasound, ECG, endoscopy and arthroscopy.
Our in-house laboratory facilities enable us to obtain quick, reliable results from blood, tissue aspirates and urine samples to aid diagnosis. For more in depth blood analysis, cytology and histology we use an external laboratory which collects samples by courier to ensure speedy results.
Kennelling
In 2008 our kennels were completely rebuilt, with separate cat and dog wards. The larger walk-in kennels even have under floor heating, making your pet’s stay a “home from home”! At night there is no nurse on the premises but we can assure you if we are worried, someone will stay to monitor and make checks on your pet. We hope to be installing CCTV soon so that the duty vet can “keep an eye” on your pet throughout the night.
Surgical facilities
Our modern operating suite is well equipped with many items that would not be out of place in a human hospital. With a very experienced surgical team, we offer a very high standard of treatment in both orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery (bones and the internal bits) . We also have specialist equipment for fracture repair (broken bones), AO/ASIF, external fixation and various other implants.
Should your pet require surgery, your veterinary surgeon will explain what the operation entails and the hospitalisation arrangements to you. Should you be worried, we will gladly show you around the facilities, of which we are very proud, to help settle any worries that you might have.
The nursing team offer outstanding aftercare and will discharge you pet with full instructions how to look after your convalescing pet.
Dentistry
A dedicated dental suite is equipped with ultrasonic descaler and high speed dental burrs and polisher. Sometimes we may have to X-ray your pet prior to dentistry to assess the dentition, for this purpose we use a special dental X-ray machine with tiny dental X-ray plates, just as you have when you see your dentist!
The dental suite doubles as a dirty ops room where animals can be bathed in the tub table or dirty wounds or dirty ears etc can be flushed. This prevents contamination of the prep room or sterile operating theatre.
