  Farm Animals

With highly qualified veterinary surgeons specialising in farm animal health and production, Southfield Veterinary Centre is proud to offer the facilities and expertise to meet the demands of an ever-changing agricultural industry.

Facilities at our Farm Animal Hospital
We have a small facility at the practice which enables us to admit calves and other small farm animals for hospital treatment. This is useful both for fluid therapy for collapsed valuable animals and for surgical procedures (e.g. hernia repair), where the clean environment ensures a more satisfactory outcome. In addition, the practice has its own laboratory to speed diagnoses and also has access to national diagnostic services.

Dairy Cattle
Dairy herds form the bedrock for the majority of our farm animal work. We continually strive to ensure the provision of an up to date service, investing in education and equipment to ensure levels of expertise and facilities which we feel confident are second to none.e offer a free check-up for new pets immediately after purchase, to ensure they are in the best of health. This is important: sometimes puppies and kittens are born with problems which can be discovered at this time. The consultation also gives you the chance to ask us about feeding, house-training or any other concerns.

Beef Cattle
Traditional beef rearing enterprises are still a mainstay of the cattle industry. We provide a number of specialist services to help achieve efficient productivity - so crucially important to the beef farmer.

Pigs
Although Dorset has never been a county associated with large-scale pig production, the practice has enjoyed a long association with several large pig herds. This has allowed us to develop expertise in all aspects of this type of farming, from intensive production to pet pigs.

Sheep
Dorset has a long tradition of sheep farming and the practice is committed to maintaining a first-rate service for flock owners. We cater for all sizes of enterprise, from small 'hobby' flocks - where the individual animal perhaps receives more attention - to bigger commercial flocks. Mortalities may be brought in for post-mortem examinations - a crucial part of flock health management.
